Sam Sarkisian

Sam Sarkisian is an editorial director.

Sam Sarkisian is an editorial director, novelist, and lecturer at Boston University, where he teaches college writing and introduction to communications writing. His debut novel, The Institute, uses dystopian satire to examine information overload, press freedom, and the dangers of surrendering independent judgment to an institution that promises certainty. Motivated by his own experience of feeling dazed by information overload, Sarkisian turns questions about credibility and public trust into a narrative of journalists, researchers, and citizens confronting an increasingly coercive information authority. His teaching in writing and communications complements a literary practice concerned with how language shapes belief and how control over information can become control over people. Through fragmented diaries, press releases, and competing perspectives, his fiction explores the distance between institutional promises and lived experience, including the fragile role of writing as resistance. He lives in Somerville, Massachusetts, with his dog, Mango, and enjoys amateur pool. For writing-project updates and previews, visit sam-sarkisian.com or follow @samsarkisiann on Instagram.
