Biography
Hod Lipson is an American professor and robotics engineer, born in 1967. He directs Columbia University's Creative Machines Lab. His research focuses on evolutionary robotics, digital manufacturing, and artificial life, as well as the development of machines that can demonstrate aspects of human creativity and self-awareness.
His work examines creativity and self-awareness as capacities that machines may exhibit in some form, rather than solely as human characteristics. These interests sit alongside his research into evolutionary robotics and digital manufacturing. Lipson also appears as an interviewee in the 2018 documentary Do You Trust This Computer?, which addresses artificial intelligence.
