Jonah Lehrer
Writing & Creativity
American science writer and author who studied neuroscience at Columbia, published bestselling non-fiction, and was later found to have fabricated quotes and recycled material.
Biography
Jonah Lehrer studied neuroscience at Columbia University and was a Rhodes Scholar. He built a media career that integrated science and the humanities, writing regularly for The New Yorker and Wired and publishing three bestselling non-fiction books between 2007 and 2012.
Beginning in 2012 he was discovered to have routinely recycled earlier work and to have fabricated or misused quotations and facts. Freelance journalist Michael Moynihan identified multiple fabrications in Lehrer's third book, Imagine, including six quotations attributed to Bob Dylan. Imagine and How We Decide were recalled after a publisher's internal review, and Lehrer was fired from The New Yorker and Wired. He later published A Book About Love (2016), which received negative reviews.
