Biography
Paul Gerard Hawken (born February 8, 1946) is an American environmentalist, entrepreneur, author, economist, and activist. He is a co‑founder of Project Drawdown, a non‑profit focused on describing how global warming can be reversed. Hawken served as Drawdown’s executive director from 2014 until 2017 and is credited as the primary author of the organization’s eponymous book project.
The Drawdown project and its book brought together an international coalition of researchers, professionals, and scientists to identify and describe practical climate solutions. The work emphasizes a range of techniques and practices—some well known, some less familiar—that, if deployed at scale, are presented as a credible path to reaching “drawdown,” the point when greenhouse gases in the atmosphere peak and begin to decline.
