Ricki Lake is an American television host, actress and childbirth-choice advocate who coauthored Your Best Birth with Abby Epstein.
Biography
Ricki Pamela Lake, born September 21, 1968, is an American television host and actress. She played Tracy Turnblad in the 1988 film Hairspray, earning an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Lead. Her talk show Ricki Lake aired internationally from 1993 to 2004. She later hosted The Ricki Lake Show, which ran for one season and earned her a Daytime Emmy Award.
Lake is also an advocate of informed choice in childbirth. With Abby Epstein, she coauthored Your Best Birth, which discusses birth settings, medical interventions and planning for labor. Their book encourages expectant mothers to consider their options and includes advice from childbirth professionals alongside personal birth stories.
