Memoir & Personal Growth
Yeonmi Park is a North Korean defector, author, and conservative activist known for her memoir detailing her escape and her political commentary.
Biography
Yeonmi Park is an author and conservative activist who was born in Hyesan, North Korea, in 1993. In 2007, at the age of thirteen, she fled North Korea into China before traveling to South Korea and ultimately moving to the United States. She first gained wide international recognition following her presentation at the 2014 One Young World Summit in Dublin.
During the 2020s, Park became a prominent conservative political commentator in American media through podcasts, speeches, and her YouTube channel. She published memoirs detailing her life and has spoken against American woke culture and political correctness.
Her descriptions of North Korean life have attracted widespread scrutiny and skepticism from journalists, professors, and other defectors due to inconsistencies and conflicting claims. Park has attributed these discrepancies to language difficulties and memory limitations.
